Raw food trial – day 27

by Bart on November 5, 2009

My raw almonds are here!!!

And… wow… are they good :-)

But… but… couldn’t you just pick up raw almonds at any store? – you say.

Not quite. The raw almonds sold in stores are not raw at all, despite of what the labels say. You can read more about why in my post about the great raw cheesecake experiment. Which did not turn out as well the great raw cashew cheesecake experiment. But I had to start somewhere :-)

Today I had:

Meal #1 @ 6:30am

I made my smoothie last night, so that I can just take it out of the fridge as soon as I wake up. It was a 32oz jar of:

  • 3 leaves of kale, very large ones
  • 3 small bananas
  • 10oz of strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon of hemp seeds
  • water

The above produced 38oz, but I had the other 6oz last night.

The smoothie was great, but definitely green in taste.

Meal #2 @ 12:00pm

Since I was going to the office today, I made my lunch while I was drinking my breakfast. I prepared some chia gel a day earlier, so I thought this was a good time to use it – in a form of a chocolate chia pudding. If you’ve followed this blog, you are probably quite familiar with this recipe by now :-)

  • 1 cup chia gel
  • 2 bananas, mushed
  • 2 tablespoons lucuma powder
  • 1 teaspoon maca powder
  • 2 tablespoons of raw cacao
  • a little bit of water

I put this in a plastic container, which in turn went into my lunch cooler bag with two cold packs. I swear I meant to take a picture of this set up, but I forgot.

The cooler bag is pretty nice, but it does not keep as much cold as a plastic cooler filled with ice would. Still, it’s perfect for packing lunch you are going to eat few hours later, especially if you put few ice packs in it. I have to remember to test how long something frozen will stay frozen in it, but that will be after my 30 days is done and I am no longer blogging every single day. It’s been a lot of fun, but it’s more work that I had anticipated :-)

And as to lunch… it was excellent!

Meal #3 @ 8:00pm

For dinner, I started with a small green-less salad:

  • 1 cucumber, huge, sliced
  • 1 tomato, huge, cut into pieces
  • pinch of sea salt

Then I had two big handfuls of raw almonds.

And I followed that with half of a Chocolate Mint Nib Pie. No, no, I did not have a magic pie with three halves… I just swung by the store to pick up tomorrow’s lunch, and… well, the pie somehow made it into the basket ;-)

After I I finished it, though, I regretted it – for about 1 second – since I realized that I’ve now had two meals today with chocolate in them. But then I thought, hey, who cares – I am eating raw!

But I will be good, and will skip cacao in my chia pudding tomorrow morning.

Of course, that will probably give me an excuse to have the other half of the pie in the afternoon…. ahhh… I feel like the universe is about to collapse onto itself ;-)

My snacks today were:

  • 1 handful of goji berries
  • half a bag of kale tempura

On to day 28…
